After going back and forth on colors,
( and when I saw back and forth I mean making my husband paint and repaint the
room 3 times), I decided on the ever so classic slate blue. I decided on also
painting the ceiling the same color as the walls to make for a more inviting and cozy space for our little bundle of joy. The crisp white crown molding and
rails broke up the color and added a nice contrast. Next step was the theme of
course. I'm not big on the common baby themes ( jungle, teddy bears etc.) so I
decided on something a little different.......elephants!!! I'm not talking big, puffy, smiling elephants, I was thinking more along the lines of circus!!!
What's better than a circus elephant?? They are big and powerful, and lucky to
boot! So I asked friends and co workers and online searched and finally found
the perfect piece for our pumpkin's room. A classic 15 inch black leather beast
with it's trunk up high and a glossy finish. Child friendly?? Not so much. Stylish
and chic? Of course! Only the best for my kids!
So I had the walls, and I had the elephant...next was
accent colors. I decided to go with lime green geometric patterns for the
sheets, an sweet elephant crib blanket with lime green elephants all thanks to
etsy, and soft crocheted elephants for a mobile. The rocker is a bold
shade of lime green and on the wall about the crib is a Large N decal in black
with green accent decal elephants underneath. For the flooring we decided to go
for it and ripped the dusty old carpet out and painted the 100 year old
hardwood with gray and white stripes. We went with black antiqued furniture and
small gray shag rug for the center, a few extra pieces and artwork and WA
LA our baby # 2's haven is complete! :)
Welcome to my blog the covers just
about any project we do to our 100+year old home! As many first time
home buyers, before we even signed those papers we told ourselves we were on the
3 to 5 year plan. Well almost 4 years, a dog and 2 kids later we are still here
and planning on being here for a while thanks to the wonderful (insert sarcasm)
economy. What else to do but to be happy in our home and really make it
the way we really want it and make it ours. I hope you enjoy what we have done
to the place so far!
